Does anyone else feel as though the expectations of the opposite party, when it comes to dating, are a little high these days? Not just from women, from men as well. It’s as though people have a long list of requirements that they don’t even seem to be able to match themselves. This song isn’t solely about my experience, I’ve been witnessing this happen for what I feel is way too often, to people that I’m close with.
I understand wanting someone better than you, someone that will help you grow and learn, someone who inspires you to be better. I get all that… but seriously, what is it you bring to the table? Why are you so deserving of the world? What are your credentials?
In my opinion, relationships are supposed to be mutually beneficial, even if its different resources being provided. If one party offers more of the finances, and one party offers more of the emotional support, and that works for your relationship then that’s awesome. What isn’t going to happen is that you’ll expect me to be supporting you emotionally, financially and more, whilst you continue at your minimum wage job with no desire to develop yourself into something more than you currently are. “Works at a minimum wage with a minimum mindset”
There’s nothing wrong with being at a minimum wage job, what’s important in that statement is the mindset. If that’s where you are at now in your journey, as you grind to create more for yourself, that’s completely fine. You cannot reasonably expect someone else to come in an immediate take care of all your problems.
Long story short, the message here is think about what you offer, and try be understanding of where you are at first before you demand more from others
Yeah. That’s the deeper message behind the song for those who like to look deeper into the music they enjoy. For those who don’t care about the meaning, on the surface level this song is a catchy tune that’s an embrace of my UK heritage.
